This blog site will be home for my research in character animation and performance. I will use this space to jot down my ideas or interesting concepts discovered through readings, films, and interviews with working character animators. I hope to learn the in's and out's of the true secret to dissecting and discovering what makes a character tick and how individual animators tackle these issues to create unique, and above all purely believable character performances.
Currently I am spending time reading every major book on character performance (some I have read already, but never have TRULY studied), including but not limited to The Illusion of Life by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, The Animator's Survival Guide by Richard Williams, Crash Course in Animation by Eric Goldberg, The Alchemy of Animation by Don Hahn, Drawn to Life by Walt Stanchfield and many many many others relating to film, animation, and acting.
I also will hope to post information on this site related to interviews I receive from animators who's work I admire and respect. I intend this site to be a sanctuary for all valuable information related to character animation and performance and look for it to be a valuable resource and library of knowledge to help me in my thesis film ("Vilho") and most importantly, as a filmmaker and artist! We'll look to talk about the basic and advance into the deep intricacies of animated performance in film and beyond. I hope this is only the beginning and that this Blog will live on beyond this research and continue into my career and future animation endeavors and adventures!
